What is SEO?
SEO focuses on increasing a websites visibility in search engines like
Google,
Yahoo and
Bing. SEO
includes both the technical (backend) and visual (frontend) elements
of a website required to improve rankings, increase traffic and
increase visibility in search engines.
Does my website need SEO?
The short answer is YES, you do need SEO! Traffic to a website can
provide increased revenue, publicity, and exposure better than any
other way of marketing. Because of this, the keywords and phrases a
internet user searches with carry a great value. SEO can have a much
better rate-of-return over other forms of marketing.
Why search engines, what about social media?
Social media sites can drive traffic to your website, but most web traffic is generated from internet users querying the three
major search engines. Google alone takes 80% of the pie, Yahoo takes
about 10%, and Bing takes 8%. All the other search engines
combined plus social media sites like
Facebook, Twitter,
and Instagram
only share about 2% of generated traffic. However, that does not
mean you should not have a social media presence. If your website
was ever to go down for scheduled maintenance or an outage, a social
media page could help get information to your customers. Social
media can also be a good alternative, plus a good place to advertise your website and increase
it's popularity.
